Maria Callas and Tito Gobbi singing the beautifully vivacious aria ‘Dunque Io Son’ from Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia. Wonderful duet, with Callas igniting with a stunningly long High D at the end.
Cuenta Heródoto en su Historia que Jerjes, en su marcha a Grecia, celebró la sombra de un plátano a la entrada de Lidia en el Asia Menor, regalándole un adorno de oro y la custodia perpetua de un inmortal de la guardia imperial.
Este fragmento de la ópera Jerjes, de Georg Frederich Haendel, hace referencia a ese acontecimiento, y a la emoción del emperador al encontrarse con árbol tan bello y la grata frescura de su sombra.
